Ladybug Preschool is a small, church based preschool that has been in business for over thirty years. We have a strong tradition of providing a developmentally appropriate preschool education in a warm, christian atmosphere. There are two classes offered, one for children who are three to four years of age and one for children who are four to five years of age. The preschool only offers morning classes and is not open in the afternoon. There is no daycare offered. Mary Johnson is the current director and lead teacher. The preschool is licensed by the Department of Human Services.
January is the beginning or registration for the 08/09 school year at Ladybug Preschool. The two day class is for children ages three to four and the cost is $90.00 a month. The two day class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The three day class is for children ages four to five and the cost is $100.00 a month. The three day class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. There is a $50.00 registration fee for each class.
Mary Johnson is the current director/lead teacher. Liberty Swarm is the assistant teacher. We would be delighted to have you talk to us about our program. Mary can be contacted at church before or after preschool hours or at her home number: (563) 332-0345. Mary's email address is dmjohnson3@mchsi.com. Please tell your friends and neighbors about Ladybug preschool at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church!
Ladybug Preschool is licensed annually by the Iowa State Department of Human Services, and has been in service for over 25 years.
Ladybug Preschool will wrap up for the current academic year on May 23. We still have a few openings for the 08/09 calendar year in each class. Packets for the 08/09 academic year will be sent to registered families in June and will be due back at the parent meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. The parent meeting will be held at the church in Fellowship Hall or the Ladybug classroom depending upon space availability. There will be sign up for a get acquainted day for your child during the week of August 25th through the 28th. A parent or familiar adult is asked to accompany their child to get acquainted day which will consist of a hour and a half session to familiarize the child and adult with the preschool routine.
We are in the process of taking applications and interviewing for an assistant teacher and when someone is hired the information will be shared on this web site. If you know of any one interested in applying, have them contact the church office or Mary Johnson, director.

May: Can you believe we are at May, the last month of your child’s preschool year at Ladybug? The month will go quickly with only three full weeks of school in May. We are focusing on the alphabet in May with a series of fun ABC books and activities. We are participating in the Bike-a-Thon to raise funds for St. Jude’s hospital and to promote bicycle safety. Details below. We will celebrate the close of our year and the beginning of summer with a brown bag picnic lunch on Thursday May 22 at 11:00 a.m. We will picnic outside weather permitting, but will just move indoors if raining. Please come and join your student for the picnic. Ladybug preschool will provide the lunch for students only, but parents and siblings are welcome to bring their own lunch and join us. Ladybug will provide dessert for all.
Bike-a-Thon: We are doing a unit on bicycle safety in May and we need two or three parent volunteers. Please let Mrs. Johnson know as soon as possible if you can help out on this day. You can bring your younger siblings if needed and we will take as many volunteers as offer. If your child or younger sibling is going to participate with a riding toy, they will have to have a bicycle helmet. They will not be allowed to share helmets as it is too difficult to adjust straps to fit correctly. We will let them share riding toys if your child does not have a riding toy to bring or forgets on that day. The Bike-a-Thon is a fund raising program to support St. Jude’s Research Hospitals. St. Jude’s supplies us with the mateials to teach about bicycle safety and an optional pledge packet will come home Friday May 9. We want to emphasize that you are not obligated to provide any money for the fund raiser. St. Judes’ does wonderful work and appreciates every donation. The bike safety program is a wonderful way to make the children more aware of safety as they head off to summer. Talking about St. Jude’s hospital in our class time is also an opportunity to teach them about the importance of helping others and to appreciate their own good health.
The bike-a-thon will be Thursday May 15th at 10:45 a.m. A track will be set up in the back parking lot with orange cones. Parent volunteers will help students get on and off, count laps, practice safety rules, and do general crowd control. We will have groups of students ride and then switch off to allow the others to ride. Your child will need to bring a riding toy such as a bike, tricycle, big wheel, or scooter. You can drop the riding toy off at drop off time and we will leave them by the back door. The back parking lot will be closed for parking when you return for the bike-a-thon and you will need to park in the upper lot or the street. If you do not attend the bike-a-thon, but will be coming to pick up your child, you will also need to park in the upper lot and walk down to pick up your child. We will dismiss from the parking lot that day. Event will be cancelled if stroms or hard rain and an indoor version will be completed for which no parent volunteers are needed.
A few openings Remain for 08/09 school year. Please spread the word. We are accepting applications for a new assistant teacher as we say good by to Mrs. Swarm. If you know of anyone who may be interested in the teaching opening, please tell them to contact Mrs. Johnson.
